Orange is a simpler color to associate with Samhain. Samhain was once connected strongly with agriculture and the period of harvest. Fall gourds frequently appear with orange. The most famous gourd associated with Halloween these days is the pumpkin. The leaves all turn to red and orange as the season transitions from Summer to Fall, and they cover the ground. In old times, a Samhain tradition was to burn a great bonfire, the flames, and embers of which were orange.
