Polyester resin

The polyester resin contains linear long-chain polymers dissolved in a vinyl monomer (styrene). Unsaturated polyester resin is synthesized by the reaction of propylene/ethylene glycol and maleic anhydride. It consists of several Cdouble bondC double bonds. Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) is used as a curing agent and cobalt naphthenate as a catalyst. Polyester resin exhibits good mechanical as well as corrosion properties and low weight. They are less costly compared to epoxy resin. They exhibit high volumetric shrinkage (5%–12%) more than that of epoxy resin. The density varies between 1.1 and 1.43 g/cm3 and has glass transition temperature (Tg) between 70°C and 120°C (Reddy et al., 2012). Polyester resins are principally used for electrical, chemical, marine, and automotive applications .

R10 – 103 is a general purpose, semiflexible polyester resin used primarily with fiberglass reinforcements. Use 1 to 3 Percent Imp Mekp (hardener) by weight of Resin.
